Paul Gerber
This is the man who makes our dials, our hands, the settimana calendar module and the entire anno cinquanta movement – in other words, almost the entire watch! His experience, his passion and the precision of his ideas breathe life into Ludwig’s watch mechanics and designs which reflect ochs und junior philosophy.
Paul’s new self-winding calibre is one of the few automatic movements made by an independent watchmaker and is, as such, a masterpiece. We use it to power our anno cinquanta, whose radical annual calendar module is designed by Ludwig.
In addition, Paul and his small yet dedicated team of craftspeople in Zurich not only manufacture the MIH watch and products for larger watch companies – they also produce watches under his own name, including a skeletonised table tourbillon, form movements featuring solid gold gear wheels, and three-dimensional moon phase indicators. His new Calibre 41 self-winding movement, exhibited at Baselworld 2010, features three rotors.
Ruth Gerber is the good soul at his side in charge of administering the Paul Gerber company. If an idea comes to him after supper, you can be sure the lights will stay on late in his workshop while he works quietly on a design and Ruth sends another delivery note to ochs und junior.
