Ludwig Oechslin wears a silver anno cinquanta. Silver is precious metal with a gleam all its own; being relatively soft, it records all the experiences the watch goes through with its owner. The patina of marks it develops as time goes by enhances its beauty and adds to its interest.
The anno cinquanta’s annual calendar employs a system of orange dots to indicate the date, month and weekday. The dots appear in circles of apertures, and understanding the display soon becomes second nature.
Conventional annual calendar mechanisms can incorporate anything in the order of 40 individual components. Ludwig Oechslin needs just three!
Fashioned from solid white gold, the heat-patinated dial is, like the rest of the watch, shorn of any lettering or logos. The only indication as to the watch’s provenance can be found on the reverse of the ecologically tanned leather strap: an ochs und junior logo applied by branding iron – our little touch of whimsy.
